SSA has recently enacted legislation to change the “file and suspend” guidelines utilized by many retirement beneficiaries to maximize their benefit amount. Section 831 of the Bipartisan Budget Act (BBA) of 2015 eliminates aggressive claiming loopholes related to “deemed” filing and voluntary suspension of benefits. The new law will be implemented on a prospective (as opposed to retroactive) basis only.
