This program is adapted from the Tai chi for Health series developed by Dr. Paul Lam. Combining different Tai chi styles, this slow, gentle practice is designed to improve heart/lung function, immunity, strength, flexibility, and balance, while reducing stress and lifting your mood. All abilities welcome. Classes will be approx. 45 minutes and can be done seated/standing or a combination of both. Comfortable clothes, sneakers.

Living Healthy with Diabetes

Are you a diabetic, pre-diabetic or caring for someone with diabetes?
Living Well with Diabetes is an evidence-based program developed by Stanford University and the Self-Management Resource Center. Topics include:

Healthy eating and menu planning.

Managing and tracking blood sugar (glucose).

Overcoming fatigue and frustration.

Exercises for improving your strength, flexibility and endurance.

Talking to health care providers about your medications.

Communicating with family, friends and health professionals.

Goal setting and problem solving.


This class is a ten-week held Tuesdays, July 9 to September 10.
This class is open to both residents and non-residents of the Village at Unity.

Course fee of $25 for workbook, relaxation CD, snacks and ten sessions.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a 6-week educational program that focuses on the needs of family caregivers of individuals with chronic conditions. Family caregivers develop a variety of self-care tools to:
• Reduce personal stress
• Change negative self-talk
• Communicate their needs to family members and healthcare providers
• Communicate more effectively in challenging situations
• Deal with difficult feelings
• Make tough caregiving decisions
Class participants also receive a copy of The Caregiver Helpbook, developed specifically for the class. This is a free class for family caregivers of someone with a chronic illness and/or dementia.
