Misuse of substances, particularly alcohol and prescription drugs, among older adults is one of the fastest growing health problems in the United States. Classroom discussion will explore components of substance misuse identification, intervention, assessment, linkage, counseling, and intensive geriatric care management. Case presentations and didactic work will focus primarily on stigma and barriers to treatment for older adults. (3 contact hours)
