The movement to transform the culture in long-term care first began in Rochester, NY in 1997. This session describes how residents and staff live and work in traditional long-term care facilities and the pioneering approaches that transform this culture. Participants learn why cultural transformation is needed, how to identify the main elements of a transformed culture, and the key factors to create person-directed communities that center on choice, dignity, respect, determination, and purposeful living. We will address the impact of COVID-19 on long-term care and on the movement that is gaining momentum across the nation. Lastly, we will explore actions to promote culture change in your community.
